The Coot is a Hoot!
A book I designed, printed, and bound about my interspecies relationship with the American Coot, developed for the UCLA Design | Media Arts (DMA) Topics in Visual Communication and Image: Migration in the Anthropocene course, led by Professor Rebeca Mendez.
Our assignment for this course was to observe, document, and enter into an interspecies communication with a bird in a specified landscape. Each student selected one bird species to thoroughly study, then designed a printed book, contributing to a collective journal of migratory bird species in the Los Angeles area. Each book featured selected research, data visualization, photographic essays, drawings, poems, and more.
